Daniel's Update, Week 7

Saturday, June 15th 9:15 pm Today was another stable day and his pressure was reduced to 70%. Jim arrived home tonight (Jeff and I picked him up from the airport. Toni's sister arrives tomorrow...

Sunday, June 16th 8:00 pm "Fathers" love stable days and this was another one! Wow! It's been over a week of stable days. Vital signs are good and they are giving him 75% oxygen. That's slightly more than yesterday but cnsiderable down from the 100% oxygen he needed last Sunday. Toni's sister Sandy arrived today.

Monday, June 17th 7:15 pm Another stable day! They ae giving Daniel 70% oxygen. The dctor is beginning to discuss removing the chemical paralysis again to see how he tolerates it. No date has been set for this though...

Tuesday, June 18th, 8:45 pm Today, the doctor tried to reduce the oxygen to 65% today (he was at 70%) but apparantly he was not ready for that yet. His vitals became unstable and they had to increase the oxygen up to 80% to get him stabilized again (which they did).

Toni's brother Gary and his wife Vickie arrived today in New York (on a college tour for their daughter) and they are taking Toni and Sandy to dinner.

Wednesday, June 19th 8:45 pm When Toni went in to see Daniel today, she was surprised to see him on 100% oxygen and the pressure up on the respirator. He was worse than yesterday. The doctor explained that it was due to the experimentation to see what he could handle as far as respirator. By the end of the day, they reduced the oxygen to 70% again. He has a new bed that still rocks him (Toni likes it better. They changed the medication on the chemical paralysis since he was beginning to develop an immunity to it.

Thursday, June 20th, 8:45 pm Today was another good day. The doctors reduced the oxygen on the respirator to 50% and the pressure was reduced as well. He seems to be tolerating it well. His new bed seems to be working out well...(and Toni especially likes it since it is lower and she does not have to stand on a stool every time she wasnts to give Daniel a kiss!) He seems to have a slight sinus infection but the doctors don't seem too concerned about that...Without looking at the past reports both Jim and we felt that 50% is the lowest he has tolerated well.

Friday, June 21th, 7:30 pm Daniel's vital signs were good all day today. They identified a resistant bacteria that is common in patients that have long stays in hospitals. The doctors were not concerned, so Toni is not concerned. Current oxygen report is that going to 50% was too much for Daniel, so they adjusted it back to 60%. Jim has been busy catching up at work and with housework.
