Daniel's Update, Week 14

Saturday, August 3 6:35 pm Jim is in NY again. He drove over to sunnyview today. He said it's a nice, 35 minute drive and he said it was nice to see Daniel again. Today was a restful day. The physical therapists got him up on his feet four times today with the help of the physical therapists and the parallel bars. He was up for 10 seconds which was the shortest and 50 seconds the longest. The occupagional therapist did work with his hands today and in speech they had a group discussion but Daniel didn't have very much to say. They also had a movie night and they saw spy kids.

Sunday, August 4 9:00 pm Today was a restful Sunday. Daniel was more alert and ate well, he didn't throw up today. Daniel had no therapy today but Toni and Jim did their own therapy. For speech they made phone calls to Betsy, and Emily, and Daniel's grandma. They also played hangman to help Daniel work his hands. Also, Daniel's cousin Samantha visited.

Monday, August 5 8:15 pm Daniel was busy all day long. he went to speech, occupational, and physical therapy. He also had an hour and a half appointment with the neuro psychologist and they did testing with him. It takes Daniel about an hour for each meal. Daniel appreciated all the mail. He's received a lot of mail the past couple days. Today Annmarie and her sons, Jacob and Zachary stopped by and later in the day nurse Mary and her son, who shares the same birthday as Daniel (August 12th), stopped by.

Wednesday, August 7 9:45 pm Sorry there was no report last night. There was a mix up on who was supposed to call. So, yesterday was a grueling day for Daniel. He did all his therapies twice yesterday. They're working on a slide board for Daniel so he can get in and out of bed on his own. It's very difficult for Daniel. Toni made Daniel cheese potatoes and he had that for every meal yesterday and today. He saw the neuro psychologist, Dr. LeBarge, for an hour and a half. They did a chest x-ray also. Both Daniel and Jim were really sad when Jim had to say goodbye. Today they did a cat scan for his lungs. This morning they did ultra sound looking for blood clots in Daniel's arms. They had him standing up a couple times today for about 20-35 seconds at a time. Jessica Terrell sent Daniel a package also Emily Richardson and Meg Wilburn send packages which Daniel is waiting to open until his birthday on Monday. Today Edith Leet brought daniel flowers from a farewell party for Roy Donkin. Daniel got to go outside today to the hospital next door's gift shop. His blood pressure was really high today, 174/120 because he missed his medications in the morning. Daniel and Toni are both exhausted. When Daniel is out for testing, Toni's in his bed sleeping.

Thursday, August 8 11:00 pm Daniel had another busy day. So busy that it was hard to get all his meals in. He had all his therapies twice today. Daniel's in a group to help him sit up. Today in physical therapy he stood up about three times today for about 50 seconds. He has a new wheelchair that fits him better, his feet can reach the ground. Jim talked to Daniel tonight and he said Daniel definately wants to go home. Daniel and Toni are starting to think about setting goals. Next Tuesday the staff meets and discusses possible goals so Tuesday is a big day. The occupational therapist got Daniel a swivel spoon to help him eat. Daniel had a cat scan yesterday and he passed. They were looking for blood clots and there weren't any. Daniel and Toni got to have dinner on the patio tonight. Daniel's cousin Samantha Fox stopped by again and Daniel was very pleased. They brought Daniel a little grabbing machine, kind of like a trash picker upper to help him dress himself.

Friday, August 9 9:15 pm Giovanna, from Albany Medical Center stopped by to see Daniel and brought Taco Bell. Reverend Roy Donkin stopped by for his last visit before he moves out here to California. Daniel got to talk to his sister Emily and her boyfriend Madison. He got a shower today, this was his second shower since May. He liked it a lot. For physical therapy he was standing, with the parallel bars and someone there to support him for one minute. Then with the same support he walked 7 steps. Overall he had a pretty good day.
